William Smith Advertise: How? When? Where? London Routledge, Warne, and Routledge 1863 First Edition Hardcover Good No Jacket Hardcover W. M'Connell; J. H. Swan Author William Smith, acting manager at the New Adelphi Theatre on the Strand, boasts in his preface that he has advertising advice for any business, including railways, merchants, insurance offices, hotels, omnibus proprietors, theatres, exhibitions, shopkeepers, and even the Crystal Palace. Profusely illustrated, this little volume offers pithy and innovative suggestions: for example, Smith recommends that bakers "should stamp their names on all loaves and biscuits." Yellow pictorial paper-cased boards are darkened from age, worn at corners and edges. Spine chipped at head edge, reinforced with clear tape (tape aged/splitting at the center). Interior hinges cracked. Pages tanned from age. Newspaper clipping adhered to pastedown. Previous owner's ink notes in tiny, neat script on front and back endleaves. A few pages have light pencil marks in the margins. This is a rare and fascinating survey of 19th century business how-to. Full refund if not satisfied. Price:
