It is not price clipped and looks quite good. VG. The book has no ownership marks. Inside the front cover, the top left corner looks like a large label has been removed. A pleasing copy of a rare book. VG+/VG.

New York: Macmillan, 1943. American Publisher's Galley for. Paperback in Leather Clamshell Box. A galley is a pre-publication printing of the text after the type is set for a book, but before it is properly paginated. Galleys are rare and show the uncorrected state of the text.
This is the American Publisher's Galley for the first American edition of C. S. Lewis's "Out of the Silent Planet", 1943.
Housed in a beautiful, custom, full-leather dark chocolate brown clamshell box. The galley itself has a paper cover with two labels on the front as reminders to whomever is doing the proofing. Penciled at the top is "Out of the Silent Planet." The text is recto only and the back cover is cardboard. No editing in the text This is a tall, narrow book. 113 leaves. Front cover mildly soiled and worn. The first blank page has the name J. Wibberley written in hand. Following the half title page is a copyright page which has, written in pencil, the date Sept. 21 and a price of $2.00. No other writing. Binding is solid. Slight toning to the pages. A very special and unique copy. A perfect addition to any Inklings collection. Galley itself measures 11.75" tall x 6.75" wide x 0.5" thick. VG+

London / New York / Toronto: Oxford University Press, 1939. First Edition. Hardcover. This signed, first edition presentation copy is inscribed in Lewis' hand: "A. C. Harwood / ex dono auctoris / June 1939.", which means a gift from the author.
This copy was part of the A. Cecil Harwood collection, acquired by Shelley and Son Books from the Laurence Harwood Estate after his passing in 2020. Laurence Harwood was A. Cecil Harwood's son -- and C. S. Lewis' godson.
Green cloth boards with gilt lettering on the spine. 150 pp. Dust wrapper is light green with dark green text. On the back of the wrapper Oxford University Press advertises five books. Book and wrapper are in very good condition. A uniquely special, signed, first edition presentation copy. A treasure for any Inklings collector.
