Out of the Silent Planet (Important Association Copy. First Edition)
London: John Lane The Bodley Head, 1938. First Edition. Hardcover. Cecil Harwood's copy with his name on the first front end paper. Lewis met Harwood when they were nineteen and they became friends for life. Harwood was co-executor of Lewis' literary estate.
Our Inklings catalogs have always been composed of newly arrived items. This is the first exception. We cataloged this book a couple years ago when we bought the Lewis books from the Harwood Estate. This book was in terrible condition with the spine completely torn away and the book badly cocked. We have recently had the spine professionally and nicely replaced and the book is now in VG condition.
Mauve cloth boards with gilt text on the spine and mauve top stain. 264 pp. plus four pages of ads. General wear on the boards and corners. Other than Harwood's name there is no writing in the book. Binding is solid.
Shelley and Son Books specializes in C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien & the Inklings. Full refund if not satisfied. Very Good / Very Good.
