Out of the Silent Planet (First American Edition, First State)
New York: Macmillan, 1945. First American Edition, First St. Hardcover. For the first American edition, at the bottom of the spine is the word Macmillan and below it there are two variations. A single dot is the first state and a dash-dot-dash is the second state. This is the first book in Lewis' cosmic trilogy. Some call it a space trilogy, but others object to that because the third book takes place on earth.
Blue cloth boards with yellow text on the spine. 174 pp. Dust wrapper has a purple background with text in white and blue plus a bit of space art at the top. The book is beautiful with just a bit of wear at the bottom of the spine. No writing in the book and the binding is solid. A marvelous copy. The dust wrapper is VG with edge wear. Worst part of edge wear is a one inch closed tear and a chip on the front cover - about .25" x .75".
