Half leather with marbled boards, gold lettering, raised bands, marbled end-papers, corners a bit worn, this is the copy of prominent General Emory Upton whose name is on the bottom of both spines, Volume 1 contains 1865, 1866, 1867, 1868 and August, 1868 (five sections 152, 180, 177, 168, 165pp, index; Volume 2 contains January 1869, September 1869, January 1870, January 1871, and January 1872 (five sections 226, 235, 227, 220, 214pp., index). Total often periods bound in 2 thick volumes. Many folding charts. Emory Upton (August 27, 1839 to March 15, 1881) was a United States Army General and military strategist, prominent for his role in leading infantry to attack entrenched positions successfully at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House during the American Civil War, but he also excelled at artillery and cavalry assignments. A nice tightly bound set in handsome leather bindings.
