In Latin. Alexander of Hales was an influential Franciscan Friar known for his work in the development of scholasticism. Complete four volume set, bound in five volumes (Volume IV is split divided into two volumes, being one for the prolegomena and the other for the text). The binding of the first 3 volumes differs from the binding of the last volume (which is split into two books). All are quarter leather binding with gilt on the spine, however the first 3 books have a yellow marbled paper cover, while the last two books have orange cloth cover. Moreover, the last two copies have red and gold decorative end-pages, whereas the other books have plain end-pages. First 3 volumes are about 700 pp apiece, while the prolegomena volume is 413 pp and the 4th volume text is 1170 pp. The covers are slightly bumped in places, with the 4th volume books showing the mark of a former library label. Note in pencil in front end-page of volume I. Front end-page of 4th volume books still has some of the adhesive and paper from the label that was torn from it. Text is free of foxing and annotation.
