Contains previous owner's small inscription describing the author and editor: "par de Freval, publier par Goulin." A brief biography of Claude-François Guillemeau de Fréval follows: b. 1745, d. 1770, an adviser to parliament and a member of the academies de Bordeaux, de la Rochelle, de Villefranche, and de Lyon. At age 20 he produced his Histoire des Discours de Ciceron, and was assisted by Goulin (presumably Jean Goulin) in editing the proofs and making the tables. Except for minor markings on the endleaves, there is no other writing in the book. The text is lightly foxed, but pages are crisp and tightly bound. Full leather covers are in poor condition, with chipped leather at edges and spine, and detached front board. A few sections of gilt tooling are still visible on spine backstrip. Book edges dyed red. The history about the author is neat because he died so young and we have very little information about him. Full refund if not satisfied.
