This is a first edition book (A Sword in the Desert) by Herbert Palmer. In the book is a full half-sheet note from Palmer to someone named Edgar. The note, transcribed below, is about Palmer's meeting with C. S. Lewis. The odd thing is that this note is hand written on the back of a typed note from C. S. Lewis to Palmer, arranging the meeting and signed by Lewis. Palmer lightly crossed out the typing and signature by Lewis! Then he used the other side. The paper shortage led to such things.
