This unique book is inscribed "To Ruth and James | My Warmest regards, | Bob Jones Jr. | Psalms 18:2" on the front flyleaf. Ruth Mahan and Bob Jones Jr. were both students in the first graduating class of Bob Jones University in 1931. Family lore is that Ruth defeated Bob in a debate at the university. This could be true because we know that the two met in debate at the end of their senior year. Ruth later married James A. Stewart. Bob Jones, Jr. succeeded his father, Bob Jones Sr. as the President of Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina officially in 1947. He served in this office until Bob Jones III became leader of the university in 1971. This copy is from the library of Dr. James A. Stewart, although his name is not listed within this book. Stewart was a prominent Scottish fundamentalist evangelist who also wrote books, started a publishing company and directed the Russian Bible Society. Stewart was the first preacher from the West to go behind the Iron Curtain after World War II. Bound in light gray cloth, the cover is illustrated in blue and black color tones. Includes introduction by John R. Rice, Editor of The Sword of the Lord. 187 pp. Three pages of advertisements at the back. Mild overall wear, and completely unmarked except for inscription. All edges are lightly foxed. Binding is tight and hinges are strong. A very nice and important copy. Full refund if not satisfied. Very Good +.
