Brownson's Quarterly Review was an American periodical on religion and politics founded by Orestes A. Brownson in the 19th century. Brownson was an American intellectual and activist, preacher, labor organizer, and noted Catholic convert and writer. His career spanned his affiliation with the New England Transcendentalists through his subsequent conversion to Roman Catholicism. These five volumes contain a variety of essays, literary notices, criticisms.

Volume IV (New Series, 1850) iv, 410 pp. Volume V (New Series, 1851) iv, 548 pp. Volume I (Third Series, 1853) v, 548 pp. followed by Appendices and blank pages for notes. Volume II (Third Series, 1854) 540 pp. followed by Appendices. Volume III (Third Series, 1855) 552 pp. followed by Appendices.

CONDITION: Half bound green, red, yellow marbled boards with matching endpapers, gilt title on hubbed green leather spine. Marbled edges. Normal shelf wear with rubbing, edge wear to spine heads and tails. Some edges chipped. All volumes contain previous owner's signature on front fly leaf and pencil notations. The remainder of the text is free from markings. Sound bindings. Very good condition. Due to size and weight (10+ lbs. with packing material), additional shipping may be required.
