The work focuses on the genealogy and “glorious blood” (sang glorieux) of Joan of Arc (Jeanne d’Arc). It traces the descendants of her family—particularly through collateral lines (siblings and their offspring)—and documents families that claimed kinship with her in the early 20th century. Drawing on the authoritative d’Hozier records (the official French judges of arms who compiled extensive armorials and proofs of nobility), it aims to establish and celebrate legitimate noble or quasi-noble connections to the Maid of Orléans.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Georges de Morant (1878–1961) was a French heraldist, genealogist, bibliophile, and journalist who specialized in noble lineages, especially families claiming descent in the female line from the kings of France or other illustrious figures. He also served as president of the Association des petits-neveux de Jeanne d’Arc (Association of the Great-Nephews of Joan of Arc).
PROVENANCE: This copy was owned by James Cardinal Gibbons, who was a senior-ranking American prelate of the Catholic Church. He served as apostolic vicar of the Apostolic Vicariate of North Carolina from 1868 to 1872.
ABOUT THIS COPY: Hardbound brown cloth boards with gilt coat of arms on cover. Several illustrated pages woodcuts of Jeanne d'Arc during her life and at death. Frontispiece of Sa Saintete Pie X with protective tissue leaf. Size 14"x 11".
CONDITION: Fair condition with significant wear. The spine's backstrip is missing yet textblock is holding. Both covers detached, yet present. Endpapers and several pages front and back detached and laid in; brittle and chipped edges. No writing or marginalia within. Inscription dated 1915 front endpaper. Full refund if not satisfied. Fair.
