Perelandra (First American Edition)
New York: Macmillan, 1944. First American Edition. This book was dedicated to the ladies at Wantage. This refers to the Anglican nuns as the Convent of St. Mary the Virgin at Wantage. Lewis' friend Sister Penelope resided at this convent. When this book and this dedication was translated into Portuguese the translation was done in such a way that, if translated back to English, it said, "Some wanton ladies." Lewis and Sister Penelope met once but most of their friendship was via correspondence.
Tan cloth boards with green text on the spine. 238 pp. Stated first printing. The dust wrapper is green with art in the center and text in yellow and white above and below.
CONDITION: The book is VG with wear-through on two corners. No writing in the book and a solid binding. The dust wrapper is VG with edge wear, the worst of which is four chips up to one inch. Dust wrapper is not price clipped.
