Agnes Strickland's "Lives of the Queens of England from the Norman Conquest" is a popular historical work, often published in various editions, including this 8-volume set. This edition, like others, provides biographies of the Queens of England from Matilda of Flanders to Queen Anne. It offers detailed accounts of the queens' lives, both personal and political, drawing on official records and other authentic documents.

Bound in matching dark green publisher's cloth, each cover bears a blind stamped crest, with gilt lettering on the spine. Top edges gilt. Illustrated throughout with plates in black and white. Each volume includes a list of illustrations. On a shelf, this set spans 12.75 inches.

CONDITION: External covers show moderate wear. Front cover joint has cracked on Volume I, and rear board joint on Volume V, yet inner hinges are well affixed. There's a 1-inch section at the head of the spine on Volume V where material is missing, including part of the title. Spines have sunned with some soiling. Previous owner's bookplates are affixed to both the front and back pastedowns with some previous owner's stamps as well. Volumes are unmarked except for Volume I, which has underlining and some annotation throughout. All illustrations and plates are present. A solid set.
