Item #079363 Theology of the New Testament (First Edition)(Volume One Only). Rudolf Bultmann, Kendrick Grobel, Author.

Theology of the New Testament (First Edition)(Volume One Only)

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1951. First Edition. Hardcover. Volume one ONLY. This work of Christian theology argues the New Testament's message must be re-interpreted for a modern audience through a method called demythologization. He believed the original New Testament writers used mythological language and concepts that are no longer relevant or comprehensible to contemporary people. Bultmann sought to remove these elements to uncover the core, existential message of the New Testament: the call to faith and a new existence in response to the Word of God as proclaimed in Jesus Christ.

Bound in dark hunter green cloth, covers are plain with faded gilt lettering on the spine. This first edition bears Scribner's first edition "A" on the copyright page. In two parts: 1) Presuppositions and Motifs of New Testament Theology and 2) The Theology of Paul. Also includes a table of abbreviations and bibliographies. ix, 366 pp.

CONDITION: VG with moderate shelfware. Lettering on the spine is faded. Unmarked except for previous owner's name written on the front flyleaf. Leaves have lightly toned yet with minimal foxing, predominantly within the endpapers. A nice, solid copy. Full refund if not satisfied. Very Good.
