The memoir of Theodore Ledyard Cuyler (1822-1909), a leading American Presbyterian minister often called the "Dean of the American Pulpit" and written in his early eighties. Cuyler pastored churches in New Jersey, New York and the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn. During his European travels, he met William Wordsworth, Charles Dickens, Thomas Carlyle, Charles Spurgeon, D.L. Moody, William Gladstone and others.
His modest and anecdotal memoir covers his boyhood in western New York, pastorates, his home and family life, temperance and other reform efforts, and his reflections from old age on American religious changes. viii, Frontispiece photograph of Cuyler with tissue, Illustrations List, Index, 356 pp. followed by a list of Rev. CONDITION: Hardbound maroon boards with gilt title on cover and faded spine. Rear cover detached, held with transparent tape. Edge and corner wear, vertical tears along spine gutter, soiling and rubbing. Owners' name and stamp on front endpaper, pencil markings in text, notes within rear cover.
